Why I Am A Student of Success

Kevin Lankford in Kevin Lankford's Blog

"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in comon hours." Henry David Thoreau

Why I Am a Student of Success
Kevin Lankford

You've probably heard the story of Harry Houdini. Did you know he once failed to perform his great escape act because the safe he was locked in was already unlocked? He was so focused on locked doors that the alternative hadn't crossed his mind.

I used to be guilty of the same thing. (Not doing an escape act, although it felt the samewink) I was so convinced all the doors of opportunity were locked that I almost gave up even trying to open them.

So I decided this once I could overcome my skeptical nature and give "the old college try." Boy, am I glad I did!

The great news is...you could do the same as me and become a student of success. And I'll pove it in this letter.

Closing the Success Gap

Warren Buffet is the 2nd richest man in the world.

Pure Fact!

Everyone knows that he is incredibe at one thing. Investing.

It is quite obvious that he's probably average or below average on hundreds of other things. In every interview I've ever seen about Warren Buffett he admits to this one point.

One of his keys to massive success (just like Tiger Woods) is the "Circle of Competence." Warren spends a ton of time working in his core competencies and strengths. (sound familiar?)Things he's good at.

On a piece of paper, draw a box. In this box list all your strengths and talents. Things you love to do and are good at. Natural strengths of yours.

What if you spend 70% of your time doing acivities and using talents that fell into the list in your box?

Warren Buffett, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey; they've all excelled at a huge level because they spend more time than most in areas they LOVE and enjoy. I bet they wake up dancing and singing everyday! (Well at least they are not going oh noooo, I wish...cry)

Student of Success

I had a long time passion for self help and personal development. As a young man, when I was introduced to the Amway system, the very first book on the subject of self growth I ever read was "The Magic of Thinking Big" by Dr. David Schwartz. What a powerful life changing book that was!

It lead me to a deeper interest in personal development. Then I purchsed my first (of many to fllow) audio program entitled "The Psychology of Winning" by Dr. Denis Waitley and it included a free excerpt of "Lead The Field" by Earl Nightingale. Then I investigated the works of Zig Ziglar, Anthony Robbins, Les Brown (who I had the pleasure of working at one of the same radio stations he did)and the list goes on.

The important thing is it was one thing to be aware of their teachings, while putting them into practice, with passion, was a whole other endeavor. That's when I wrotemy book.

Success key*** Grow Your Strengths, Manage Your Weaknesses.

Ask Yourself:

  • Where am I strong?

  • What are my talents?

  • What are my natural strengths?

  • How can I spend more time in my 'talent box'?

Never doubt yourself, YOU have talents and natural strengths. Take some time to discover them. Send this letter to someone you know who could benefit from this.

May this wealth of knowledge give you the knowledge of wealth.

Your Friend,

Kevin Lankford

Add Smile Power to Your Life

Kevin Lankford in Kevin Lankford's Blog

Add Smile Power to Your Life

People with a great smile radiate a warmth that draws others to them instantly.

Several years ago I was in a San Diego restaurant with my mother. While I paid the check, we both noticed an elderly woman waiting to be seated. As we left the restaurant, Mom asked, "Did you notice that woman with the wonderful smile?" I most certainly did. Her smile lit up the room. It was a smile to die for_one that would certainly win instant friends. It was a smile that you don't often see in a stranger. And maybe Mom and I smiled back, I don't remember. Mom later commented, "I wish I'd told her what a terrific smile she had." But neither of us had. We'd both received a gift without saying thank-you.

Later, on my long drive home, I stopped at a fast-food restaurant for a quick bite. A 70ish woman waited by the condiment bar while her husband ordered. She glanced my way and smiled brightly. It was one of those smiles that broadcast, "I love life!"

I wasn't going to let THIS opportunity pass_I was going to say SOMETHING. As I approached this woman from 30 feet away, her smile melted into a rather startled look; as if asking, "Did I do something wrong?" I walked over to her and simply said, "You have a wonderful smile!" Wow, did her face light up! And she responded with an enthusiastic, "Thank You". My comment probably made her day, but it also made MY day. We truly exchanged gifts that afternoon.

SMILES: INSTANT FACELIFTS

Life's lessons have taught me this: a smile is the number one feature that makes people attractive. It's a welcome mat. It's what makes folks approachable. People with a great smiles radiate a warmth that draws others to them instantly.

Some people naturally have a great smile. Others_analytical types like me_must work at it. One way to tell if you're in my category is to recall picking up your developed photos. As you flipped through the pictures, you didn't like the way you looked in most of them. But then...you discovered that one great picture of yourself. In it, you look friendly_you're smiling broadly and your eyes twinkle. Now THAT picture looks like you!

I hate to say it, but ALL the pictures look like you_even those you dislike. Unfortunately, those "bad" photos, where your face doesn't look its best, portray how you often appear. In fact, you might normally look even worse, since you were TRYING to look good for the camera. Usually you're not even making that effort, and may appear even less inviting than you do in "bad" photos. And if you're like me, you assume you're not particularly photogenic and that your smile needs work. When you've mastered your smile, you'll consistently look better in photos. Most important, though, you'll be more attractive and approachable every day.

When you're having a good time, does your face show it? You might be surprised. Years ago I dropped into a comedy club in Montgomery, Alabama. I was sitting in the front row, where one is typically fair game to be picked on by the comedian. But being the non-expressive, serious Norwegian that I am, I wasn't giving the comic the jovial feedback he needed. I was enjoying the show, but in a straight-faced manner. About halfway through the show, the comic interrupted his routine to ask me point-blank, "Are you having a good time?"

I responded, "I'm having a great time." His comeback: "Well then, tell your face!" I was enjoying the program, laughing inside, even studying the performer's humor and technique. BUT...not giving him any outward indication.

In everyday life the same concept applies. You might be enjoying your job, but fail to show it. You may want to meet someone, yet not give them a single, friendly clue. You can even be IN LOVE with somebody, and totally hide it. Your face should express what you feel when you wish to connect with others.

SMILE AEROBICS FOR EMOTIONAL HEALTH

One way to become better at smiling is increasing your awareness. Take notice of those you find warm and inviting. Is it their smile? Make an effort to LOOK for great smiles. Notice the appeal of people who smile with their EYES, not just their mouth. The whole face gets involved. Consider these people your models. Study yourself in the mirror. How do you look in the rest room, when shopping, and while passing a reflective window? Do you look friendly? Approachable? Do you really LIKE the image you're projecting?

In fact, a mirror is ideal for your smile workout. Practice various smiles toward capturing that perfect look for the camera. Work on expressing your smile with your eyes. A tip: cut a paper rectangle that permits you to see only your eyes in the mirror. Practice smiling just with your eyes. Get used to the feel of your cheekbones as they lift to brighten your eyes. When you see how a great smile LOOKS, remember how it FEELS. When you can finally project your best smile, hold it. Turn away from the mirror. How does your face feel? What muscles are you using? Make an effort to develop muscle memory, so you can instantly recreate this smile at will.

THE SMILING REMINDER

Sometimes it's life's little reminders that help us focus on making self-improvements. I set out to find a "smile" lapel pin as a permanent token of my smile's importance. After a fruitless one-year search, I commissioned the design and production of smile pins. Now when I encounter a total stranger with a million-dollar smile (not an everyday occurrence), I share the compliment, "You have a wonderful smile...thanks for brightening my day! I'd like you to have my golden smile pin." Then I might add, "And someday, when YOU see a total stranger with a fantastic smile, you can pass on the pin to them."

This little reminder has conditioned me to search out life's glowing smiles, and not to allow them to pass unnoticed. I always carry "golden smile" pins. And when I spot a show-stopper smile, I always express my appreciation.

Other strategic pluses:

The pin reminds me never to leave home half-dressed: without my smile. Even while I'm running routine errands, it keeps me focused on smiles as life's true blessings.

By shaping my focus, the pin increases awareness of my public appearance and attitude. For example, when in a grocery line, I don't want the checker to glance up and think, "Why in heaven's name is this sourpuss wearing a smile pin?" It forces me to wear a friendly face all day.

The pin encourages me to compliment others. When I fail to say a kind word about someone's beautiful smile, I feel guilty. Now, that's what I call constructive guilt! We've often been conditioned to feel shame because we've not lived up to what others expect, but isn't it more positive to suffer guilt for failing our OWN expectations?

You needn't search for a smile pin to remind you. You can choose another object, like a clown pin, that will program you to focus on smile power. Or consider something that nobody else sees, like whimsical underwear. In fact, you may discover that the sheer strength of just your awareness can create positive life changes. With practice you can focus on life's smiles; and create your own relaxed, naturally warm smile. And THEN when you get back a roll of photos, you'll like almost all of them! That's certainly been my pleasant experience. And when you encounter customers, strangers, or loved ones, you'll always be ready to pass on your award-winning smile!

Design Your Destiny
By Jill Koenig

Have you noticed around you that expectations are already
starting to change?

We are heading into the Holiday Season and this is when I start
to hear rumblings about how production declines and things slow
down, except for the retailers who magically cash in on the
droves of Holiday shoppers.

They say real estate sales drop, momentum drops, business slows,
yadda yadda yadda.

That's hogwash.

It doesn't drop for everyone.

It only drops for people who believe that and buy into that
mentality.

A lot of people do slack off this time of year. It's crazy.
They slack off to conform to what they think everyone else is
doing.

For the rest of us, this is a time of year of amazing growth and
opportunity.

This is the time that I dig in deeper and really pour it on.

Most people fall into a state of complacency between now and
January 1st and then they throw together some sloppy
"resolutions" they pulled out of thin air that they have
absolutely no commitment to and no plan for attainment.

strategize your goals, create plans to achieve them and redesign
your life. I am going to show you how to design your destiny

I am going to help you make the the next six weeks a time in
your life of re construction and affirmation of the life you
know you are truly capable of living.

Are you in or are you in?

Great, let's go!

Let's focus the next six weeks on building momentum and creating
new habits to carry forward starting today, tomorrow and into the
new year. You are going to wake up energized, and hungry to seize the day. You are going to become a lean mean Goal Achieving Machine!

It starts right now.

The first step is to get serious about your time.

The Time Commandments Ebook is the foundation for arranging your life so that your goals and dreams become a priority instead of being an afterthought.

To help you get a head start on programming yourself for success
starting NOW, I am making the ebook available for only $ 14.97

Murphy's "Lesser Known" Laws:

Kevin Lankford in Kevin Lankford's Blog
Friday 20 of October, 2006
Hi,

This is going to be crazy. No Kidding!lol

In a second, I'll tell you how you can link to My own PERSONAL MYSPACE
account...

Where you can be HOTWIRED to other Champions worldwide...

First, here's something to add a different twist to today!

In my book Bettering Your Best: Using Your Strengths to Springboard Success we discuss the importance of knowing Murphy's Laws. Though it's a little tongue in cheek humor to know these unwritten guidelines; the importance of expecting the unexpected is what gives you the ability to Live by Design and not by Default.

So with that in mind here are Murphy's Lesser Known Laws:

  • Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

  • He who laughs last, thinks slowest.

  • Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

  • Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't.

  • Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

  • The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90 percent probability you'll get it wrong.

  • If you lined up all the cars in the world end to end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them, five or six at a time, on a hill, in the fog.

  • If the shoe fits, get another one just like it.

  • The things that come to those who wait will be the things left over by those who got there first.

  • Flashlight: A case for holding dead batteries.

  • The shin bone is a device for finding furniture in a dark room.

  • A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.

  • When you go into court, you are putting yourself in the hands of twelve people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.

Though humorous the idea of success is to break Murphy's laws and be in control of your life. Most times it involves taking total responsibility for every outcome in your life.

Stop procratination and Get around to it!

Id Theft and Stolen Wallet

Kevin Lankford in Kevin Lankford's Blog
Friday 15 of September, 2006

"Attention Is Our Most Important Currency!"

ID Theft and stolen wallet —

tips on minimizing damage

ATTORNEY’S ADVICE—–ID Theft, etc.

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.

1. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks.

2. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put “PHOTO ID REQUIRED.”

3. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the “For” line. Instead, just put the last four numbers (or none at all). Your statement has it enclosed. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check-processing channels will not have access to it.

4. You can put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box, use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks.

5. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. Also carry a photocopy of your passport when traveling either here or abroad. We have all heard horror stories about fraud that is committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards.

6. When you check out of a hotel that uses cards for keys (and they all seem to do that now), do not turn the “keys” in. Take them with you and destroy them. Those little cards have on them all of them information you gave the hotel, including address and credit card numbers and expiration dates. Someone with a card reader, or employee of the hotel, can access all that information with no problem whatsoever.

"Unfortunately, as an attorney, I have first hand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieves ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer and received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online."

Here is some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

1. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. The key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

2. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one). However, here is what is perhaps most important of all (I never even thought to do this.)

3. Call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit. By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves’ purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet and contents being stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

3.) TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

The only way this will help you is if you do
as Nike says: "Just Do It!

"May prosperity flow freely through your life.
May wealth and all of its comforts be naturally
attracted to you.
May you embrace prosperity in all forms."

(PEAK PERFORMANCE)

MAKE UP YOUR MIND

Seven steps to making better decisions

"People rarely get rich doing one thing
brilliantly; They do many small
things which work."

Do you find yourself with the "Millionaire's Messages and the Pauper's Paycheck?"

The trouble for most people is in the decisions and choices that they make in life that steers them in the wrong directions. The big secret is that our physical world is a dream world and it works just like dreaming, but generally slower.

As you acknowledge the dreaminess of it, and begin to work with it from that perspective, the apparent speed of action increases. The way to direct the world is through your imagination and will. Exercising your will strengthens it. You can exercise it by doing something unpleasant until it becomes pleasant.

Good decision making isn't as much about having all the right answers as it is using a process to ask all the right questions. Your status is dictated by your choices. Therefore, you can dramatically enhance your life by following these seven steps to making better decisions.

  • Determine the decisions you need to make.
  • Carefully evaluate the impact your choices will have on those involved. Consider the pros and cons of your actions so you can effectively communicate them to members of your organization. Never believe that your actions don't count. The fate of the world has been changed by one person many times. Through other people, unlimited resources that are available to you, as soon as you're ready to use them. "Form a vision of yourself and make the future con-form." Nietzche

  • Define the opportunity that requires a decision.
  • Decision making is not a problem solving activity; rather a proactive exercise in constructing a preferred future for yourself and others. It's more art than science. Thinking outside the box has revolutionized many things. By applying knowledge from different fields and being creative, amazing solutions can be found- even when it seems unlikely. "You can't lead people if you don't love people...You can't save people if you don't serve people."Cornell West

  • Identify your desired outcome.
  • From ancient military strategist Sun Tzu to leadership guru Stephen Covey, this principle has been a century-old mandate. There is no status quo when it comes to life. You either grow, or diminish gradually. Make the conscious choice to grow, in all areas of life, and you'll reach levels you couldn't even imagine before. "A rising tide will lift all boats."

  • Research your options.
  • Brainstorm as many possible scenarios as you can. Good decisions require time to review options and outcomes as well as pros and cons. The amount of time you take to make a choice should be proportionate to its significance and impact. Refrain from snap decisions. Ask yourself is that really true or my perception. Trust yourself consciously. You really do anyway! "Wisdom is knowledge understood."

  • Choose the option that will best meet your goals and priorties.
  • You don't earn it, you learn it. In any challenging situation, ask yourself, "What am I trying to learn here?" Then begin to act on that principle. You have to consult your head and heart and realize your value. Don't sell yourself short. When you dedicate yourself to helping people, you deservc to get paid for it- and you will be. "You can't make demands when you're not in demand.

  • Implement your decision.
  • Understand that you will never create a situation that you can't learn from. What would be the point? Don't fret or second guess yourself. Remember that you can always make adjustments to your plan. No vision is too big. No goal is impossible. You may have to work hard, but anything that can be imagined can, in truth, be realized. Develop the habit of thinking that everything is possible. "Go from moment-to momentum-to movement!"

  • Evaluate your decision.
  • Reserve the right to be flexible and make necessary changes. Mistakes are unavoidable and necessary. When you make a mistake, you are one step closer to your goal. You've eliminated one more way that doesn't work. Successful people are successful because they failed ten times more than most people, and then kept going. That's their secret. The meaning of life is what you make of it. You have the freedom to lead a meaningful life, or a wasted one. In the end, you are the one left to judge your accomplishments. Every day is a new start. You can completely change your life in an instant. The freedom and responsiblity to choose when that happens is yours, and yours alone. There are no limits. You truly can do anything you set your mind to. Do more of what you love and love more of what you do. "Love wins!"

In Due Season!!

Words of Wisdom:

"Courageous is the soul who adventures into time and space to learn of their divinity. For while they cannot lose, they can think they have and the loss will seem intolerable.

And while they cannot ever be less than they truly are- powerful, eternal, and loved- they can think they are, and all hope will seem lost.

And therein lies the TEST. A test of perceptions; of what to focus on, of what to believe in, in spite of appearances!" Mike Dooley

May the warm winds of Heaven blow softly upon your home,

May the Great Spirit bless all who enter there

May your moccasins make happy tracks in many snows,

May the rainbow always touch your shoulder

''A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island.

The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agree that they had no other recourse but to pray to God.

However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife.

The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the
island, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man
unworthy to receive God's blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why are you leaving your companion on the island?"

"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them," the first man answered. "His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything."

"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him. "He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings."

"Tell me," the first man asked the voice, "what did he pray for that I should owe him anything?"

"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."

For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us.

When Jesus died on the cross he was thinking of you!

If you are one of the 7% who will stand up for him forward this with the title "I am one of the 7%".

93% of people won't forward this.''

And that's okay too! Not a sermon just a thought.wink

Though it seems like an insurmountable task to live your dream it can be done. It is probable that you will See abundance in your life as long as you possess the correct thoughts.

Words of Wisdom....

"You and I want to create our lives in the best possible manner. To do this, we must flow with life instead of flowing against life. To flow with life, we want to create from the model of Being-Doing-Having. The universe flows from being into doing into having."

Don’t Sell Out to Fit In

by Alan Cohen

A fellow went to Zumbach the tailor to be fitted for a new suit of clothes. After Zumbach altered the suit, the man stood in front of the mirror to check the fit. At first glance he noticed that the suit jacket’s right arm sleeve was rather short, and too much of his wrist was showing. “Say, Zumbach,” the fellow noted, “this sleeve looks a little short. Would you please lengthen it?”

“The sleeve is not too short,”
replied the tailor. “Your arm is too long... Just pull your arm back a few inches and you will see that the sleeve fits perfectly.” The man withdrew his arm a bit, and the sleeve was matched with his wrist. But this movement rumpled the upper portion of the jacket.

“Now the nape of the collar is several inches above my neck,” he protested. "There's nothing wrong with the collar,” Zumbach insisted. “Your neck is too low. Lift the back of your neck and the jacket will fit well.” The customer raised his neck a few inches, and sure enough the collar rounded it where it was supposed to. But nöw there was another problem: the bottom of the jacket rested high above his seat.

“Now my whole rear end is sticking out!” the man complained. “No problem,” Zumbach returned. “Just lift up your rear end so it fits under the jacket.” Again the customer complied, which left his body in a very contorted posture. But Zumbach had convinced him that the problem was not with the suit, but him. So he paid the tailor for the suit and walked out of the shop in a most awkward position, struggling to keep all parts of the suit in their right places.

On the street he encountered two women walking in the opposite direction. After they passed, one woman turned to the other and commented, “That poor man is really crippled!” “He sure is,” the other replied. “But that suit looks fabulous on him.”

Our families, friends, schools, religions, and society prescribe many suits for us to wear.

Some of them fit and many don’t. If a job, relationship, living situation, or spiritual path does not match you, others may try to convince you that you have a problem. A good, strong, wise, devoted, or mature person, they tell you, should be able to stay in this position and even enjoy it. Yet if such an arrangement does not bring you happiness, you only cripple yourself by trying to stuff yourself into it.

Your problem is not that you cannot live up to the standard you have chosen; your problem is that you cannot live up to a standard others have chosen for you. You will never walk comfortably in an ill-fitting suit prescribed by a shortsighted tailor. Your inability to adapt is not a sign of your weakness, but the strength of your inner guidance to remind you where your passion lives. So what you thought was wrong with you may be what’s right with you.

When Dave Barry was in junior high school, he was the class clown and often got into trouble for cracking jokes during lessons. Dave’s teacher scolded him, “You’d better get to work, Dave Barry — you can’t joke your way through life, you know.” Now, forty years later, Dave Barry is the most successful humor writer in America.

With many popular books to his credit, he writes the most widely syndicated humor column in American newspapers. Oh, yes — along the way he won the Pulitzer Prize. The junior high school teacher was way off the mark. Dave Barry is joking his way through life, and doing quite well at it. He is bringing laughter to millions of people, helping them lighten up about their difficulties, and earning a hefty income. What he was told was very wrong with him, was very right indeed.

No one knows your passion and purpose better than you do, and no one has to live with the results of your choices more than you do. That is why you must be very honest about what fits you and what does not.

Seminar participants often ask me, “How can I find out what is my life purpose or passion?” I tell them, “Begin to tell the impeccable truth about how everything you do feels. Is it a fit or is it not? Be true to your inclinations on the little decisions, such as where you go to dinner and with whom. When your daily decisions reflect your intentions, you will discover the big picture for your life.”

Robert Louis Stevenson noted,

“To know what you prefer instead of humbly saying Amen to what the world tells you that you ought to prefer, is to have kept your soul alive.”

Keep your soul alive, and you will be amazed at how easily and naturally your body, relationships, prosperity, career, and entire life follow.

Thanks Alan.

There are a lot of "could have beens" out there, in every area of life. In addition to those with great athletic ability who won't work hard, there are people with great intelligence who won't study, those with a great business sense who are too lazy to work, and talented people in every organization who simply don't want to put out the effort to be great. On the other side there are a lot of just "average folks" who have become hugely successful simply because they were willing to put out the hard work necessary to make it happen.

Finally, "no weapon, formed against me shall prosper!" Though we struggle for acheivements that we consider success as long as you persist and stay encouraged you WILL reach your goals. It "suits" you!

Best Luck and Happiness in the future.

Have you ever asked yourself...

How Can I be "The ONE"...even when no one around me sees my vision?

topic: Branding, Sell Out or NOT

There's a hero inside each of us who answers to no one and
nothing except that inner vision that pulls us out of bed every morning
with boundless energy...

For this reason I write, sing, and DeeJay like a "warrior" who is awake
on the deepest level to take relentless action to make a lasting difference
in the world.

That's why ,when asked "how are you?" my response is
"EXCELLENT AND GETTING BETTER!"

It leaves an impression with people, cheers them up and brands me in
their memory. Perhaps you need to develop your own "Brand" too.

Let's see how in our guest author's article:

Branding Is Not Selling Out, It's Selling In

By: Kim Castle , BrandU®

NOTE: Some words in this article may have been disguised to avoid triggering sp^m filters.

Ever see an amazing band perform and wonder why you’ve ne*ver heard of them before? Ever see an astonishing artist on the street and wonder why their work isn’t in a gallery? Ever see an astounding independent film and wonder why people all over the world don’t know about it?

Me too!

It breaks my heart to know that there are musicians, painters, sculptors, and filmmakers everywhere starving.

Starving… for their art.

Why is a branding expert like me, who mostly deals with entrepreneurs and small business owners, addressing musicians, artists, and filmmakers? It’s simple. Artists are the ultimate entrepreneurs.

Think about it. Some create products and look for a market; others look at a market and create products. Every entrepreneur starts the same way! It’s the notion of business that often trips artists up.

Creating any piece of music, art, or film, is like creating a product. I’m not suggesting that all products, art-based or otherwise, are equal. We all know a good product, or painting, or film or vacuum cleaner when we experience it. It's just with some artists, imaginary barriers get created. These illusive barriers can keep them from creating the very success they want.

All creators have the same goals: to make a good product that is useful or meaningful, have it well liked by many people and to be paid proportionally to the market they reach.

Who doesn’t want that?

Making music, paintings, sculptures, photography or film should be addressed like any business with the same attention to the big picture, IF you want to make a great living from it. But something often holds artistic creators back from making a great living from their art.

As usual fear is the culprit.

Artists sometimes fear that if they develop the recognition and financial success that comes from branding from them “selves”, their peers will think that they’ve “sold-out” if they “make it”. Fellow starving artists might say that on the surface, but what they are really saying is that they are envious of the success that you have created. It’s far easier to put down someone else’s success than to make it themself.

What’s more important: what your peers think, OR having your “art” enjoyed by as many people as possible and having the financial freedom that comes along with it?

Another fear that may prevent artists from taking their craft mainstream is that they think that they will lo*se control of it by becoming a business and, heaven forbid, a BIG business at that. Just like the art you make, what your business becomes is in your control. If you develop your brand based on your vision of it from the start, you protect it from becoming something else.

Business is not bad— people that run them can make bad decisions. The power of your business is always in your hands.

The largest fear for some artists is that the very nature of getting paid, and paid well, for their art will change it. This will then set in motion the loss of creative connection with the “art” itself. I would argue that those that get lost were not very centered on their purpose and passion in the first place.

It’s odd to think that financial freedom, the freedom to do whatever you want, could cause one to lo*se their way. In one of our workshops, we were fortunate to have a successful artist who was ready to take his brand to the next level. When I asked him what does he do, he answered, “Whatever I want.” Who doesn’t want that?!

With the mo*ney you get from branding your craft, you can set up systems so that it doesn’t interfere with your focus; donate to causes, invest in real estate, create other products/partnerships. You can even hire the people to manage it all. Leaving you fr*ee to… create.

The bottom line is simple.

Everyone has control over what they do and what they manifest, it’s just that most people haven’t been shown how. Commitment to your ‘art’ does not preclude your ability to make mo*ney from it. In fact, the more financial freedom you create for yourself, the more art you can create. A branding mindset is taking that control into your own hands and owning the future. And it must truly start from the inside— from your innate talent and your grand vision for your art.

Branding your art comes down to your commitment to yourself and to the art itself. Branding is not only slogans and TV ads; it’s the power to be who you are and communicating it to everyone proudly.

The definition of artist:

    1. somebody who creates art
    2. somebody who does something with great skill and creativity
    3. somebody who is very good at doing something

Nowhere does it say you have to starve to make good art or good products.

Remember that the next time a musician, or painter, or sculptor, or filmmaker you know breaks through to success.

Ask yourself, what are you really committed to? Don’t cheat the world of your gift. Developing a brand mindset with integrity from the inside out is guaranteed to reach more people.

    Period.

If you do something that you really love, you’re really good at it, and people pay you to keep doing it, then branding it’s not selling out, it’s selling in… to you!
