Elwin enlisted in the Marines at age 16 in May 1941. He served in combat in WW II (Guadalcanal & Tarawa), Korea and Vietnam. By 1950 he was a MSgt and recommended for OCS. Commissioned as a 2ndLt, he served another 24 years retiring in 1974 as a Colonel. His memoir is dedicated to Gladys, his late wife of over 63 years. They adopted three children during their marriage, Marylee 61, Robert 48, and Tom 42. Elwin obtained a Bachelors and Masters Degree during his service. After retiring he served in county and state government for 11 years, finally retiring again in 1985. He currently resides in Village Green, a retirement community in Federal Way, Washington, where he wrote his memoir.
